EP46 - So What's Been Happening? - Joyce Prescher
Carefully crafted lyrics, haunting melodies and rich velvety vocals, Joyce Prescher takes you back to days long gone. Her words delivered with such honesty and melancholy, you cannot help but be roped in and left mesmerised. One easily picks up on her love of seventies folk music yet is left wondering just who she reminds you of. But never mind. If you didn’t feel anything yet, she is sure to make you feel things. Her songs deeply introspective, exploring hardship and distance, mortality and love. Best listened to wrapped in a warm blanket, with candles lit and perhaps a fireplace close by. Sit back, immerse yourself and enjoy the ride.

EP45 - So What's Been Happening? - Matt Joe Gow
Very few artists wield so much charisma that they can sell you just about anything before you’ve realised what’s happened. Matt Joe Gow has the charisma to be one of those artists – but he isn’t. Matt prefers to concentrate on the conviction. You don’t have to listen to more than thirty seconds of Matt’s debut 'The Messenger' or new album 'Seven Years to appreciate that. And that voice. Rich, resonant. A baritone cloak of many shades and shadows. A songwriter whose swagger has taken him from the dusty influences of Townes Van Zandt, Ryan Adams and others, to the swirling urban chime of electric, ambient pop . . . and back again.
"Matt's voice has an engaged emotional sounds and that's alot of what its all about in my view" Steve Young

EP43 - So What's Been Happening? - Ben Mastwyk
Melbourne cosmic-country-rocker BEN MASTWYK writes his songs on the move. Planes, trains, rivers and highways set the mood. “There’s something about the rhythm of the world rolling by that stimulate the process” he explains. With his seven-piece rhinestoned band THE MILLIONS, songs erupt into swaggering, psychedelic bar-room gems. As a teenage noise-rocker, Mastwyk's love of twang was instilled when he watched family members produce a country record, exposing him to artists such Cash, Kristopherson and Parsons, confirming his love of classic country music. After ceasing music to explore Fine Art, Mastwyk was thrust back into the country music scene when a borrowed guitar spawned a flood of songwriting. Twice nominated for Best Country Album (Music Victoria Awards), Mastwyk has received high nation rotation on ABC Radio and toured his songs around Australia, NZ and the USA. His third album, 2021's LIVIN ON GOLD STREET, debuted at #1 on the Australian Independent charts, #2 on ARIA Australian Country charts. “Mastwyk plunges headlong into Seventies country-soul glam with lashings of cosmic American pedal steel and psych-guitar glitz. COUNTRY UPDATE MAGAZINE "The songs are rich with meaning and truth…real and raw, just as true country music should be.” RHYTHMS MAGAZINE

Nick Barker has been a familiar painting hanging on the walls of the Australian music scene since the late 1980s. He left his suburban home at 17 and began his career as a bass player in Melbourne’s eclectic inner city post-punk scene, cutting his teeth in iconic venues like the Ballroom and the Prince of Wales with bands such as The Curse, Beach House and A Singing Dog, precursor to the now infamous Lubricated Goat. The most notable of these was The Wreckery, with whom he played on five albums. In 1988, Nick’s new band, Nick Barker and the Reptiles, began playing bars around town, sparking interest from The White Label. They had their first break through with the Chris Bailey-produced single, ‘Another Me’, followed by four crazy years of booze-soaked pub rock. The Reptiles released two albums: ‘Goin’ to Pieces’ in 1989, which included the hit cover version of Steve Harley’s ‘Make Me Smile’ and ‘After the Show’ in 1991, recorded in Melbourne and Memphis, and produced by Joe Hardy (ZZ Top, Georgia Satellites, Steve Earle). Sadly, The Reptiles fell apart in 1993 after the release of ‘Loose’, an EP that gave an insight into the band’s true potential. A tireless songwriter and performer, Nick has toured the UK, Europe, North and South America and Asia. He’s written songs with the likes of Tim Rogers, Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes, Earl Slick, Mick Thomas and Felicity Urquhart - just to name a few. Nick has seen the Australian music industry spin, chase its tail, die, resurrect and do it all over again. Thirty-five years later, he’s still here and no one is more surprised than him.
